Volunteer Information
Thursday, April 17, 2008

Thank you for volunteering to help on Beautiful U Day.

To manage the tremendous number of people who have expressed interest in volunteering for Beautiful U Day projects, we've split the day into two shifts and divided the campus into four volunteer muster areas. Here are the details.

Volunteer Shifts

  • 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
  • 1:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

The two shifts will help better organize the work, accommodate people's schedule and give everyone a chance to enjoy the Beautiful U Day lunch.

You can begin your work at any time during the shift and you can stay as long as you are able.

Volunteer Muster Stations

Volunteer Captains will be in place at four muster stations across campus. They will have a list of projects to complete, the supplies you'll need, and of course, your official Beautiful U Day t-shirt. The volunteer station locations are:

  • Coffman Memorial Union
  • Lilly Plaza - North of Morrill Hall at the Northrop Auditorium east entrance
  • Washington Avenue Bridge west end
  • St. Paul Student Center

Projects

  • Sweeping and cleaning bicycle racks
Using alternative transportation is another important way to be green and sustainable. We'll clean out the leaves, sand and abandoned bicycles on racks around campus to get ready for another biking season.
  • Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning...
Recycling and trash containers, Heritage Markers, Building Signs -- if it's nailed down, we'll clean it!
  • Picking Cigarette Butts
Some people have not gotten the message that the world is not their ashtray.
  • Campus-wide litter pick-up
With spring slow to arrive, Campus Landcare crews have gotten a late start on picking up the winter's worth of litter on campus. We'll give them a hand everywhere we can.
